Albina Marushina is a Mathematics teacher at Basis Independent Manhattan. She graduated from St. Petersburg school # 30 with an advanced course of studies in mathematics (Russia), then continued her education at the Mathematical-Mechanical Department of St. Petersburg University. Later, she got her Ph.D. in mathematics education from Teachers College, Columbia University. For more than 30 years, she taught at various educational institutions in St. Petersburg and New York, including the Mozhaisky Academy, Fordham University, Borough of Manhattan Community College, and secondary schools (in both cities). She taught basic and advanced classes, including AP Calculus, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Geometry.
Dr. Marushina’s scholarly interests focus on the teaching of mathematics through problem-solving and extracurricular activities in mathematics education. She has authored several publications, including both research papers and a manual for teaching probability. Her most recent publication in ZDM/Mathematics education was devoted to the traditions and innovations in extracurricular mathematical work.
