I graduated from Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, Saint Petersburg State University, Russia. I have been working for 8 years in two specialized Math Schools in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I taught Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Geometry courses. I always tried to involve my middle-schoolers and high-schoolers in diverse extra curriculum activities. We studied additional topics in Mathematics such as Theory of Sets and Theory of Graphs, solved Olympiad problems, and participated in various math Olympiads in Russia. Many of my students were awarded.
Since 2012 I have been working at the SchoolPlus on Manhattan teaching students from 2nd to 10th grades. My students participate in Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School (MOEMS). For three years we conducted Math Olympiad (“Young Hawks”) for 1st-3rd graders and I am the author of its content and one of the organizers of the competition.
Since 2016 I am participating in the City Smart Scholars Program, run by ESPI, that prepares talented students from low income communities for Hunter College High School and some of my students successfully studying now at Hunter High School.
I consider Mathematic lessons to be a great tool of critical thinking and learning. This approach works for everybody, but specifically helpful for younger children who are open to new concepts and ideas. My goal is not only to introduce basic mathematical skills but also to create children’s interest in complicate but fascinating such field of knowledge as Mathematics is.
