This World Geography course is designed for pre-elementary school students. Join us on a journey around the globe as we learn basic geographical concepts and explore the world’s continents and oceans. We introduce children to geography through the lens of world myths and creation stories.
We explore how people across various cultures used to explain the origin and nature of the world. What could make geography more captivating than learning about Maori and Polynesian cultures, volcanoes, and islands through the story of Maui pulling islands from the sea, or by following the Rainbow Snake to see Aboriginal Australia? Or why were the flood myths so universally popular?
We seek answers and explanations by studying the valleys around the Tigris, Euphrates, Nile, and Ganges Rivers. How does the story of the Cosmic Egg connect China, India, and Greece? We will talk about mountains, rivers, and the “cosmic center” in each on of those cultures.
In so doing, we work on the skills of understanding basic world geography, appreciating cultural diversity and human creativity, as well as mapping and spatial thinking.
